Activities of the River of Knowledge Project 

The River of Knowledge project plan to do and has completed until now (May 2011) the following materials:

For upper secondary school teacher training

A total of 50 videos on science experiments for upper secondary schools are planned. The videos are made using as content the work of the National Institute of Education. They will be recorded and post-processed by the Open Institute under funding from EEQP (ADB). They are subject to approval by the Teacher Training Department.

By 6 October 2011, 50 videos on science experiments (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Science) were recorded.

32 videos are postprocessed and approved by NIE (all Chemistry, all Earth Science and some in Physics).

One Chemistry video had incorrect content and must be re-recorded. 

The remaining 17 videos (some in Physics and all of Biology) are postprocessed, but not yet reviewed by NIE.

For lower secondary school teacher training

A total of 200 videos on science experiments for lower secondary schools are planned. The videos are made using as content the work of the Kandal Regional Teacher training center and the NGO VVOB. They are recorded and post-processed by the Open Institute and funded by Spanish Cooperation and EEQP (ADB). They are subject to approval by the Teacher Training Department.

By 6 October 2011 100 videos have already been fully developed and have been approved by the Ministry. 

65 more videos have been recorded and postprocessed, and now await Ministry approval. The manuals prepared by VVOB have not yet been aproved by the Ministry). 

The recording of the remaining 35 experiments will be recorded in two session between 11 and 14 October 2011 and from 18 to 21 October 2011. They will be postprocessed by the mid of December 2011.

For primary school teacher training

A total of 9 videos on Effective Learning and Teaching (ELT) for primary have been recorded. They feature real teachers teaching their lessons in rural schools. The classes recorded are for Khmer language (3 videos), mathematics (3 videos) and science (3 videos). The videos have been recorded by the Open Institute as part of a project of the Department of Curriculum Development to identify good practices in ELT, under funding from UNICEF and support from VSO.

Videos of a total of 16 lessons on environmental education are prepared for usage in teacher training centers and in-service training, with materials prepared by VVOB and recording and post-production by the Open Institute.

As of July 2011, the 9 videos on ELT have been completed and approved by the Ministry. The videos will be piloted in Provincial Teacher Training Centers and primary schools in 10 provinces in the coming school year.

As of July 2011, material for the 16 videos on environmental education have been recorded and edited. The videos await Ministry approval.

A new set of videos on teaching of the Agriculture Life Skills for primary level students will be prepared by VVOB and recorded in Siem Reap between 2nd and the 4th of November 2011, and will be post-processed before the end of the year.

For pre-school teacher training

A total of 21 videos on teaching of pre-school in different settings were considered. The content for the videos was to be prepared by the NGO Krousar Yoeung with funding from Enfants et Developpement and recorded and post-processed by the Open Institute with funding from Spanish Cooperation. They are subject to approval by TTD.

Finally, a total of 9 videos have been completed. 

For principal training 

A complete workshop on Principal Leadership Development, that took place in Sihanoukville in January 2010, was recorded, post processed and distributed.

A video on Effective School Support visit was recorded in January 2011 a school in Kompong Cham province in coordination with World Education and KAPE, with funding from USAID. It was recorded by the Open Institute and post-processed with support from Spanish Cooperation.  The  video was completed and distributed.

 

Activities planned for 2011

October 2011:

- Recording remaining 25 videos for lower secondary level and start post-processing them.

- Complete revision of upper secondary videos. 

November 2011:

- Recording of Agrculture LIfe Skills videos in Siem Reap.

- Post process lower secondary school videos.

- Recording of model lessons for RTTCs using the Lower secondary videos in class. Postprocessing.

December 2011:

- Complete post-processing of lower secondary school videos.

- Approval of all lower secondary videos by Ministry. 

- Postprocessing of Agriculture Life Skills Videos.

- Packaging of lower secondary materials and preparation of copies.

- Preparation of materials for videos on equal treatment of teachers for boys and girls in class.

January 2011:

- Scripting, story board and recording of videos on equal treatment of teachers for boys and girls in class.

February 2011:

- Completion of videos on equal treatment of teachers for boys and girls in class.

-Final Packaging lf all materials.
